I think I'm going to live.

There was doubt for a bit there, what with the lovely array of symptoms, but I think I'm all better now. 48 hours puts it about right- which is good, because any longer and I'd have been really annoyed.

Of course, now that I'm no longer sick and needing to rest a ton, I'm having trouble sleeping. Woke up at 6AM this morning- this despite being up till almost midnight chatting with people- and could not get back to sleep. I suspect the heat is to blame. It's going to be 94 today, which isn't terrible for Fresno, but then there's the humidity. Which is predicted to be somewhere in the thirty percent range, I believe.

Shoot me now.

And of course I have to go out- I have library books due, and, even worse, we're nearly out of Pepsi. Which means, damnit, we have no choice but to hit a store that sells food on 4th of July weekend. If you guys never see me again, it's because I'm stuck in some eternal checkout line behind a bunch of guys buying truckloads of beer. And chips, I suppose. But mostly beer.

Oh yes, and fireworks. Because, you know, fireworks and beer? Always a good combo.

I heard my first firework early this morning; sounded like a firecracker set off in our just-finished-being-repaved parking lot. I suspect it will not be the last one I hear today.

Ah well. Nothing can beat last year, with the guy next door tossing firecrackers off his back balcony into the alley. Really annoying, but he was kind of a... large guy. So I said nothing. He moved out, though, so with any luck... Oh, who am I kidding? Someone will do something stupid around here, it's only a matter of time.

Have had it with AIM, by the way. It keeps freezing up on me and kicking me out of chatrooms, so that people keep having to re-invite me. Only to have to do it again five to ten minutes later, when it does it again. Have not updated AIM in ages, and suspect this may be partly to blame. But- Note to self: Download Trillin before you put your fist through the laptop in frustration.

Okay, off to mingle with the masses.

Feeling better is definitely a good thing.

Fireworks into the alley, however, is bad. Here they're just shooting them at our cars. Am thrilled. Really.

Shooting them at-? Okay, that's past annoying and into dangerous.

People. Are. Crazy. I firmly believe this.

Sounds very tropical. A nice place to visit, but I don't think I'd want to live there. :)

Yeah, AIM is usually alright for me, much better than ICQ, which used to give me lots of problems.

*lol* Celebrate early- yes, I guess they do. I think maybe people get confused, since the next suburb over has a city law that you can set off fireworks any day of the year that you want to. Either that, or they just can't wait to play with their new explosives.

I'm not really anti-Coke, but I like Pepsi better. Do you like the vanilla stuff?

Okay, not to belittle your problems or anything, but 30%?! Gods, I wish! I'm in my office right now, where the humidity is... (going to next-cube-neighbor's desk to look at her little gague thingy) ...60%! Whoo hoo!

Bleccch!

BTW, it's actually less humid outdoors right now.

No, I agree with you really. Even though it's gotten up to 40%, it's still much worse for you. 60%! Ugh!

It's just so gross! And I can imagine it's even worse over in Moody!mun's office, because her office is small and has no ventilation. Mine is at least a large space. Even if these fools turn off the a/c on the weekends...

But she's over there having fun, and I'm over here working, so it kinda works out anyway, I guess.

But I am getting the fan out... *g*

Yeah, it sure sounds gross. I don't know how you guys deal with it, though I guess it's like anything else- you get used to it.

They turn off the a/c on the weekends? That's not very nice of them at all.

Yes, I think I'd get the fan out too if I were you. I'd have to.

And not very smart, either. I'm pretty damned sure that it costs more to cool the place back down after it's been off all weekend (or warm it back up, in winter...), but these fools just don't get it.

This past winter, when we had that freakishly low cold snap (it went down to one degree!), they finally realized that turning the heat off over the weekend was a problem, because the pipes freeze & burst... Duh!

Date: 2004-07-03 11:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] urbandruid.livejournal.com
Oh, wow. That's incredibly stupid. Probably costs them more to fix the pipes than it would to run the heater. Well, forget probably- I'm sure it does.

Duh is right.

Do you by chance work for the government? Because that would totally figure... no offense. :)

Why yes, I do work for the government. Does it show that much? *g*

*lol* Our tax dollars at work. Fixing pipes they could have kept from breaking if they'd turned on the heat in winter.

Oh yeah.

You betcha -- but then again this building is so old & cheaply made that the pipes are going even without any weather help...

Date: 2004-07-03 11:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] urbandruid.livejournal.com
Okay, so maybe it's not totally their fault, but heat in winter might, I dunno, help a bit? :)

My coworker & I have to continuously remind ourselves of that fact. We keep expecting things to make sense, and then they don't...

Now that's amusing. But it sounds frustrating, too.

Intensely.

It's actually kind of amusing. We're very much alike; we both organize things the same way, we both have the same rather biting sense of humour (makes the two of us somewhat unpopular, but we never have trouble with each other), and both think very logically. So since the two of us sit right next to/behind each other, we're constantly griping about things that just Don't. Make. Sense!

Right now it's 86 degrees in my office and the humidity, though I have no measuring device for it is probably over 70%.

As to AIM, yes, shoot it.

I love the icon above. The Kodamo(? - I know the word is close to "Kodomo" which is "child). Seriously freaky little guys.

Ugh. I think if I were in your shoes I'd feel better not knowing just how high the humidity was.

Yeah, AIM is toast. Evil thing.

Believe me, I'm feeling every percentage point...

I just have no idea why AIM was kicking you off so much last night. Evil thing...

BTW, Penny's new dress? You're definitly pushing the man to a coronary...but he'll go extremely happily.

I'll bet you are, poor thing.

It always does that. Every time I try to chat. Drives me crazy.

Oh, dear. I was afraid of that. Was actually thinking something a bit more understated, but Star found that, and I sort of fell in love with it. I hope he doesn't, really, though- she'll be crushed.

Nope, he won't, but, if he did, the cosmotologist definitely wouldn't be able to get the grin off his face.

*lol* Well, that's good to hear. I'm still a bit concerned for his health, myself, but, you know, if he passes out, she'll just find it very amusing, I'm sure.

Actually, considering the weight he lost, he's probably feeling a bit more at the top of his game. Having a pretty woman to impress and fuss over him is helping, too.

Huh. I hadn't really thought of that. Also... Awww. Am still overwhelmed by the cuteness. But, you know, she's fairly impressed already.

Well, he thinks he's got a lot to prove. After all, he's not a handsome young man to sweep her off his feet and he's certain aware of the fact that he's not the most gracious of personalities.

See, she's finding that attitude really hard to understand. I mean, she knows why he might think that way in general, but I don't think anyone's ever really treated her the way he does.

And again I say, wait till he sees her in a bad mood.

How about this instead? If I can help with said research, let me know.
