Harry Potter and the Order of Anxiety

I've been trying to write, work a bit more on one of my fics- any fic- and it's not happening. Sometime between falling asleep last night and opening the .doc files this morning, I've crossed a line, and suddenly I can't write. At least I can't write the post-GoF stuff (and I just started a new one this week, because I am crazy.)

I haven't been this nervous and excited since- well, let me think. Either Star Wars Episode I, or my high school graduation. Episode One was a serious let-down in a lot of ways, but graduation was fun.

I'm terrified, though. What if she kills Snape? What if she kills Remus? What if she kills the real Alastor Moody, and we never get to see how cool he really is? What if it's an awful book?

Okay, so I don't think it'll be an awful book. But I am terribly nervous.

Nerves are not conductive to writing.

And that's the other thing- for all that I've mocked the FictionAlley people for their fears about post-OoP and fic writing, suddenly I am terrified, my own stories feeling so up in the air and I don't know where they're going to land...

11 1/2 hours.

edit - oh, this is good. A couple of us were talking over at jenavira's journal, and ginnyjake pointed out that Snape can't die yet, because then they'd need a new potions professor and a new DADA teacher, and that would be too confusing. I like this thought very much.

Yeah, that's a good point though. Book 6 is going to be another bunch of anxiety attacks, I'm sure.

I have been compiling a mental dossier of characters that could be killed and characters that can't be killed.

Characters that could die:
Any Weasley except Ron, but most likely Percy, one of the twins, or Ginny. Or Molly or Arthur, which would break my heart.
Reubus Hagrid
Draco Malfoy
Neville Longbottom
Lavender Brown or Parvati Patil
Seamus Finnegan or Dean Thomas
Justin Finch-Fletchley, Padma Patil, Ernie MacMillan, or other minor-character kids in Harry's class
Blaise Zabini, Adrian Pucey, Susan Bones, et al (remember, Cedric Diggory was only a name in canon until the fourth book, and it still hurt to see him die!)
Sirius or Remus, or Peter for that matter.
Colin or Dennis Creevey
Cho Chang

Characters that probably won't die:
Harry Potter (you can't kill off the title character)
Dumbledore (my theory is that he'll die, but not until the seventh book)
Voldemort (ditto)
Ron and Hermione (this is still sort of a childrens' series, and I just don't think she'd do that.)
Snape (remember that rumor about Snape finding love? He can't do that if he's dead.)
McGonagall (only because I really, really don't want her offed and thus will not entertain that possibility)
Crabbe and/or Goyle (because frankly, who'd care?)
The Dursleys (ditto)

I have no idea who the actual person is, I swear up and down. I don't get the book for another nine hours. But my bet is on Percy Weasley. So if I turn out to be right, here's the record that I called it.

If it's McGonagall... oooh, that would hurt. I didn't even list her as a character I was afraid might die, because I can't even contemplate. I mean, poor Snape is doomed, almost everyone thinks so, but Minerva seems so...well- I'm with you, I'm just not entertaining thep ossibility. Nope.

Er- rumor, Snape finding love? Now I'm really worried... If it's not Minerva, or at least Hermione or Narcissa Malfoy, I don't want to know a thing about it.

And he will be in this book, apparently. But only with his "first love"...the way it was worded, it sounded like he'll hook up with Ginny, but they'll grow apart. No hard evidence, though.
