So, today is the first day of the spring semester. Amazingly enough, I don't want to go back to school.

I was thinking about this last night, and I realized that this schedule is probably one of the most annoying ones I've gotten stuck with since I started college. I have two classes, one Monday, Wednesday, Friday class, and one Tuesday, Thursday class. When I only have two classes, I like to have them both on the same day, so I can have every other day off to sleep in and do homework and stuff. I could've done that this semester, if I'd only wanted to take one class- the one I need, which is the math. Finite Math, I think it is. Will look at my schedule later this morning when I check to see which room I want to be in. :) I didn't bother looking at the room number before, except to see that it was in the math building. It's kind of hard to miss the math building on campus, so I wasn't worried about finding my way.

Anyway, the T-TH class is the one I'm really looking forward to, History of the British Isles. It's my "Someone save my sanity, please, my other class is, ew, math" class. I'm really excited about it, and I wish it was today instead of tomorrow.

Today, I have... math.

Not until 12:00, but I have math.

So, you ask, Chris, WTF are you doing awake at this ungodly hour?

Well, see, I have A Cunning Plan.

My normal plan for school days is to sleep in till a reasonable hour, and take the bus to campus, then hang around and do my homework till Mom gets off work, when she can swing by and pick me up. Today I'm driving in with her instead so I can beat the rush (aka the Freshmen Menace) to the bookstore, and other first-week lines I must stand in. (Though I don't have to stand in the registration or fee payment ones, which are really going to suck today- well, all week, really.) I thought about sleeping in, but then I'd be hitting the bookstore at prime time, and might be stuck in line when my class starts. Which is a nightmare I really, really don't want.

Plus, the bookstore is scary when it's full. So I'll go in early, kill some time till the bookstore opens, get my books...

...And go up to Disabled Students. I really don't want to deal with them today, I know what it'll be like up there no matter how early I go, but I need my counselor to sign the form that'll let me take my math tests in their office, with the extra time I'm allowed because of my disability. I just hope they'll be so anxious to clear people out of there, that I'll get my form signed with no trouble. Oh, and that they didn't "misplace" my file again, which they did once before when I ignored them for half a semester.

I have another doctor's note I can copy for them- they don't get originals anymore since they lost that first file- but if I have to redo all their bloody paperwork, someone IS going to suffer my displeasure. I'm tired, I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, it's the first day of school, and I have a cane.

Seriously. Don't piss me off today.

Still, all things considered, it could be worse. At least the city work crews finally finished my street, so that rather than having to wind all the way through the subdivision, and taking the long way to the bus stop, all I have to do to get home is cross a street and walk about a block (and, to get to school, obviously, reverse it). I think by the end of today, my feet are going to appreciate that. A lot.

And I suppose, since I have about half an hour before Mom wants to leave, I'd better go see about clearing last semester's crap out of my backpack, finding my bus tokens, and other fun things.

Still... I think I'd rather still be asleep.

Wait until you have to go to work, 5 days a week (if not more), for 8 hours a day (if not more) and do overtime whenever requested (usually for no extra pay), and have to schedule your 10 free days a week far in advance (and then maybe not be able to take them off when you hoped) and then ALSO try to do everything else on top of that like cleaning, cooking, shopping, bill-paying, errands, the occasional emergencies and, oh yes, your hobbies.

School is easy! Enjoy it while you've got it.
