I signed up to write an essay about Moody for
idol_reflection. (Yes, I am crazy- what's your point? :) It's coming along rather well, which is good as it's due November 1, but I know there are several Moody fans on my flist (yes, I'm looking at you guys...you know who you are, I think) and I thought I'd ask you to share some thoughts. Or some fic recs. Or some art recs. Or all of the above. I don't need fic or art recs, but they're cool, so why not? Mostly looking for gen stuff on the fic recs, and that's problematic, because most of the good Moody fic I'm aware of is shippy. So if you guys know some stuff...or have written some stuff, whatever- give me a link?
On the 'share your thoughts' front, feel free to go totally crazy, ramble at length about how you see/write Moody, why you like him, ect.
And yes, if I had this stuff by November 1, that'd be awesome.
I may or may not quote this stuff in the essay- it depends how long my own rambles get, as there's a word limit. I'll credit if I quote you guys, naturally, but if you'd rather I didn't quote you, just let me know.
Thanks a million, guys.

Date: 2004-10-28 05:13 pm (UTC)I am an addicted Alias fan and was wondering if when you had the time you could possibly edit your motherdaughter.gif pic to make one that read "truth takes time" on it?
OR even cooler would be an irina one that had her with a cocky smile or something of the sort that read that. Or said something about her returning.
Don't feel you have to do it, but if you have the time and feel so inclined, i would definitely appreciate a great pic to use for my LJ account.
Thanks!

Date: 2004-10-30 07:29 pm (UTC)I was first attracted to Moody as a character because of his eccentric paranoia. Despite his mistrust of virtually everything around him, however, he remains a singularly confident character in the books, something that I found quite compelling. To me, Moody exemplifies the epitome of an Order member and an Auror- constantly vigilant, always prepared for anything that might happen to him or those under his watch. And as the Whimsey pointed out in her own response, he doesn't seem to be bothered that others see him as barking mad at times. He does his duty as he sees fit, and bother the rest.
I'm always attracted to Moody's commitment to his work- I think it goes beyond his occupation. It's fascinating to try and imagine how broad his vision is at this point- and of course, I'm not talking about physical vision here. With all of the wars and conflicts that the Old Man has seen, and with all the more mundane atrocities he would have encountered in his work, I would have to imagine that he sees things through the long scope of time, moreso than through the short term. I also tend to think that Moody would be willing to sacrifice damn near anything to his duty because of this.
This is also one reason why, for a very, very long time, I viewed Alastor Moody as an unShippable character. Not only does he serve the greater mistress of Justice, but his trust in people is so fractured that I have had serious doubts about his ability to hold onto a romantic relationship. Of course, minds change (especially after reading good smut, heehee!), but I still tend to think that there are damn few candidates who would pass Moody's thorough check-over to be eligible as his partner in any sense of the word.
Most of what I see in Moody is present in my writing of him, and it's where I am able to express it the best. He's a character that I seem to channel, or not get at all; he's definitely one of the most vivid when the Muse is flowing. But I think that is in large part because he is such a stand-out character, both in appearance as well as action. And I love delving into him to try and determine just what made him like this- paranoid, eccentric, living on a permanent hair-trigger. Far more interesting than exploring the shallow depths of Draco, heehee!
I hope that's a start. If you have any more specific questions, I'll do my best to answer. :)

Date: 2004-11-07 08:33 pm (UTC)Anyway, what I think I'm going to do with this (and with Whimsey's response as well) is toss a link into my essay to this comment, because my own rambles did go on for so long. I still have another 1,000 words to play with, but I'm going to use them up myself, I'm afraid. Because you have some totally awesome thoughs here that I'd like for people to see, even if I can't quote them directly myself.
If that made any sense at all... I swear, this essay is eating my brain. :)
