Classic Myths & The Freshmen Menace

Meant to update yesterday...didn't. Too tired.
So anyway, the first day of class went well. I still have a class, and it's pretty full but not too full, which means no worries about not enough people showing up for them to keep the class around, like what happened last semester with my HTML class. Which I'm taking this semester as an online course, since that's how they're offering it this semester. And yes, I do know HTML, but there's some stuff I can't figure out on my own. Hence, class.
Anyway. Classic Myths is awesome. My prof said, among other things, that he'd be surpried if he didn't have at least one person writing a book and one gamer in the class, and by the way, does "Wizards of the Coast" mean anything to anyone? Up goes my hand, and if I'm not mistaken a few others. Intelligent questions were asked, intelligent comments made. I have hope that my classmates aren't total morons- yay!
I managed to avoid the humungous bookstore lines this week by heading there the minute I got to campus, so I was out of there in no time. I had time to wait in the line I suppose, but I prefer not when I can help it. So I took my new textbook off to the library and flipped through it. It's a huge book, but the bulk of it is the actual text of the myths themselves, stories, plays, poems and such. Am very jazzed.
I'm going to see if I can't suss out who the other writers and gamers are- found one writer on Tuesday when we both stayed after to talk to the prof. He's having us do (ugh) a research paper, but we can do it on pretty much anything, including mythic themes in our own stories. More details forthcoming with the syllibus, which the printshop didn't get back to him (though they did send along our first homework assignment instead, even though it wasn't mean tot be assigned till today. Joy.)
I figure I'll wait till I read the syllibus to think too much about the paper, but in the back of my head is my obsession with Celtic mythology, and the definate Hero's Journey overtones to last year's NaNovel, Children of Cyrania. Am pondering. But this is a paper I'm almost looking forward to writing.
Ah, upper-division English classes, how I love thee.
I'd be very surpried, too, if in addition to the writers and gamers there wasn't at least one other Pagan hanging about class. Shall try to suss them out as well.
So Tuesday was good. I even managed to run into a friend of mine in the last hour before my class, so we hung out and caught up on news and such. I was thrilled to see her- it's so hard to find people you know at City, there are so many students, and it gets worse and worse every semester.
I still hate the freshmen, too.
I think that instead of the bogus "here is your campus map, welcome" so-called 'orientation' they make everyone go through, there should be a student run one that would actually teach these kids something. Top 10 Stupid Mistakes Freshmen Make And How To Avoid Them, ect. Perhaps I should write a brocure. I mean, I know they don't know any better, but I tallied up the number of cell phones I heard go off in the quiet room of the library, in just two hours, and it was insane. Insane.
Right. Off I go for another fun-filled morning of killing time before my class. I almost think this will be less annoying when I have homework.
(Oh, and if I owe you a tag? Will get back to you when I'm home, around 1:00 or so. Am not awake enough to do them now.) *hugs* to everyone.
