I can't sleep. So I've been reading fic...sort of. I've stuck my head out from the turtle shell in which I normally exist in HP fandom and done a little poking around. I have discovered that there's good fic at the Restricted Section, and quite a bit that is really really scary. I have seen pairings that made me go "eeew!" right out loud, despite how late it is here and Mom asleep across the hall and all. (She'd say "eeew" too, though. I'm sure of this.)

I don't squick terribly easily, but there are pairings that will always do that to me. I don't even want to tell you, dear flist, what I found tonight, because some of it is too scary for words. Well, alright, I'll share one, because I am traumatized, and that's never fun alone- Ron/Scabbers. No, not Ron/Peter, but, you know, Ron/Scabbers-the-rat. And I was like, "eeeeew, no thanks!" and clicked onward.

But see, if that's your OTP? More power to you. No, seriously. I'm not going to sit here and tell you it's icky- well, I am, but I'm not going to be rude or obnoxious enough to go out of my way to say it to the person who wrote the Ron/Scabbers fic I decided to pass by. And once again I'm reminded of the people who have clear issues with the pairings I write- and it amuses me to no end that I squick people, I swear- but who persist in reading my fics anyway. You knew what you were getting yourself in for, kids. I still get these reviews for "Emerald & Ebony", my first Snape/Minerva fic. "Ew, that's gross!" and so on and so forth. *sigh, eyeroll* I'm never sure if people have actually read the fics, or if they just went straight to the feedback links. And frankly I don't care- it's just ridiculious. Dear, dear Potter fandom, why are you so dense?

I feel like I've ranted on this topic a hundred times. I probably have, for which I do apologize. But really. If people would just not go there, I'd shut up. Swear to gods.

Also? I forgot how annoying rare pairings can be. I mean, I love all of mine to death, but it is so hard to find decent fics with said pairings. A quick tour around FictionAlley Park's fics sorted by ships threads has shown me that things haven't changed very much. I haven't read a decent Snape/Minerva fic in ages- think the last good one was [livejournal.com profile] tarimaniervi's Walls. Which still rocks, BTW.

In terms of other pairings, Moody/Tonks seems to be catching on, but I'm sort of, I don't know, past that whole thing. Cute? Yeah. Not as cute as my Moody/Auror!Penny, though. No way, no how. That one has OTP written all over it. And no one else is ever going to write it, I suppose. *sigh* I am doomed, you guys. Doomed.

Ah well. Cannot sleep. May as well go write.

You haven't lived til you've read Hermione/Crookshanks. I don't recommend it.

See, what I have to wonder though, is why did you read it? Or was jut seeing the pairing enough to trumatize you?

Ooh no, didn't read it. Just saw the pairing and shrieked and fled.

Okay. That makes me feel slightly better about your sanity. Only slightly, you understand, 'cause I know you.

Maybe because the nice dark BDSM fic is actually a lot less scary than the pairings? I don't mind the BDSM or darkfic now and then, or both, but there are some pairings I'll just never go near.
