Spring break & batteries
Mar. 27th, 2005 09:38 amStill alive, believe it or not.
I've had the last week off from school for spring break, and I spent most of it doing as little as possible. I got a few things done that I'd wanted to do, but mostly... I wasted my time. *sigh* So what else is new? I spent half the week trying to fix this crazy issue I've been having with my laptop battery- said issue being that it basically sucks, it says it's at 99% (charging), which it's said for ages, but is in fact somewhere in the ballpark of 33%... and when I tried to recalibrate the battery, following the instructions from the user's manual, it got to 33%, and then sat there...for hours and hours and hours. The book said it would take "several" hours, so I wasn't too worried after three hours. Then I went out to dinner, ran some errunds, came home, three more hours later, for a total of six. 33%. I restarted it. Same thing happened, so I gave up.
Called Gateway yesterday. Surprise- they agree with me that the battery is toast.
Now here's the really crappy thing. I checked, and the extended warrenty I got when we bought the laptop is still in effect. So I thought, no problem, they'll replace the battery, right? Hah. Extended warrenty doesn't cover batteries anymore. Sucks, huh? So I thought, okay, fine, this is annoying, but what am I gonna do? A new battery is $129. Ouch, but I do need one, so... Can they sell me one?
Of course not, because they are out of stock. As is their supplier.
Which was about the time I started headdesking, a lot.
The Gateway guy said he could sell me the secondary battery for my computer, and it's cheaper. I was like, no, you don't get this, do you? My primary just croaked, I need a new one of those. It'll probably flip out if I slap a secondary in there and it has a toasted primary.
Cue more headdesking.
I have no idea what I'm going to do now, except keep checking back with Gateway and the supplier, and hope they get more in.
I have finals in a little over a month, and I think I might be coming down with the flu-like thing Mom brought home from work. I don't need this right now.
If Gateway ever gets them back in stock, maybe I'll buy two, and the damn secondary. I'm getting really tired of this crap.
As if I wasn't having a fun enough weekend, I get to go over to Grandma's for Easter lunch. Uh... yay. It'll be nice to see my aunt and uncle, haven't seen them for a while, but I'm just not in the mood to deal with my relatives. I never am when I feel this bad. *sigh*
What I'd really like to do is go back to bed, but... no such luck.
