HP Meme (spoiler free)

100% DH spoiler-free. Potter meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] unanon

1. Favorite Book so far?
Toss-up between GoF and HBP. GoF for Moody (obviously), Aurors, Death Eaters, and the 'Oh shit, Voldemort's back, now what do we do?' ending. HBP for Draco and Snape, and, because I'm a bit warped like this, Ron: "Anyone we know dead?"

2. Least Favorite book so far?
I guess PoA because it always seems to drag when I read through it. But I don't hate it or anything.

3. Favorite Book Quote?
Constant Vigilance! Or Luna's entire Quidditch commentary in HBP. I'm sure there are others, but they're not coming to me.

4. Favorite scene?
GoF: Ferret!Draco. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] irreparable) Also the Department of Mysteries in OotP, when Neville starts kicking ass.

5. A scene that made you cry?
Neville in St. Mungo's. And, um, Dumbledore's death in HPB. (For Snape more than D'dore.)

6. Number of times you have re-read the series?
Um. This year? Seriously, too many to count.

7. Favorite character(s)?
Snape, Moody, Minerva, Neville, Hermione, Luna, Draco, Lucius, Penny, Susan Bones

8. Most hated/annoying character(s)?
Umbridge. Dobby. Hagrid. Lavender Brown in HPB ("Won-Won"? Ugh, just DIE already!) Harry, sometimes. HBP!Tonks with her random lovesick moping for Lupin.

9. Which character do you find secretly annoying that others on your flist love?
Now, how secret would it be if I told you? I don't know, I think my flist pretty much knows what characters annoy me.

11. Which character do you secretly like that others on your flist dislike?
I'm drawing another blank here.

12. Favorite Spell?
I could've used a nice mass Avada Kedavra on the ants in my yard a couple weeks ago, that's for damn sure. I dunno... Leviosa so I could manage heavy stuff? It'd be cool to be able to do everything. :)

13. Favorite magical animal?
Dragons and the sphinx.

14. Which magical object would you love to own?
A broom that really flies. No more city busses for me. Hah!

15. Out of these which would you want to= be?
1. A skilled legilimens? -
Sometimes, yeah. It'd be good for those "OMG what were they THINKING?" moments.
2. An Animangus (If this, what form?) - A cat, so I could talk to mine, and find out what she's thinking. ;) Or a crow so I could talk to the ones that hang out by my house. I think they're cool.
3. Metamorphmagus - Oh yeah, be great for hiding pimples and such, right? Also avoiding people I don't want to talk to. Or playing jokes on people. :)
4. Parselmouth - Sure. How do you say "Please don't bite me?"

16. Which house would you be in?
Ravenclaw, honestly. I've got some Slytherin traits, but overall I'd really just like to be left alone with my books. Also, smarter than you. ;)

17. What magical career would you like to have?
Minister of Magic. *pause* *snort* Yeah. Right. I think I'd like to be an Auror.

18. Pick one to finish the sentence: Snape is _____
(a) Good
(b) Evil
(c ) A bit of both
[x]
(d) I’m sick to death of hearing about Snape.

Fandom
1. How long have you been in the fandom?

Oh, Gods... I got into the books a little after the hype for GoF started dying down. Everyone from people at school to Grandma was reading them, and I thought I'd see what the fuss was all about. I bought a copy of Sorcerer's Stone in San Francisco when Mom and I were down there on a day trip with some friends of hers, started reading it on the bus going back. Grabbed the next three books as soon as I could get my hands on them.

2. Where did you start out in fandom?
Promise you won't laugh? I think it was FictionAlley. It was the biggest thing going at the time, and I was really into reading fanfic. Though I remember thinking it was kind of scary how many people were there, and how, well, into things they were.

3. Which fandom pastimes – do you participate in?
(a)analyzing canon for clues -
Somewhat. I keep a list of questions I've come up with through reading the books that I don't feel have been answered yet, but I haven't looked at it in ages. Hmm. Might want to do that, I suppose.
(b)participating in debates - Not really.
(c)writing fan fiction - Hahahahahahahaha. You think? I start a hell of a lot more than I finish, but yeah.
(d)reading fan fiction - I used to read a lot more than I do now, but these days I just don't have time. And I swear the quality's getting worse in general, too.
(e)lurking Hell yes.

4. What (if anything) has changed for you in the fandom?
Oy. Can I just say 'everything'? Because it really has. It's been going for so many years now, and with every new book, fandom gets Jossed bigtime. Fandom, I've learned, does not like being Jossed. HP fandom especally does not like being Jossed, and every time a new book comes out their little worlds turn upside down.

5. Will you still be with us after Saturday – or is it over now that canon is over?
Oh, I'll still be here. I think it'll make things a lot more interesting, having the full story to ignore or change as needed draw on for... whatever.

6. Five fandom memories
1. Cartoon Hearts for the win! (No, that wasn't supposed to make sense to everybody.) :)
2. The potluck ladies at the movies. That one, I'll explain. :) There's a group of women who for a while there I ran into waiting in line to see every HP movie in town. They also like Pirates and Lord of the Rings, and were probably at Chronicles of Narnia, though I missed it. They bring their own food and- hmm, better stop talking about that. You never know where those theater people are lurking. ;)
3. The OotP release, and the local TV weather guy hanging around outside Barns & Noble, trying to coax someone from the line to come up to the camera and "talk like Harry Potter." And the girl in line in front of us, asking her mother "Who is that guy?"
4. The characters who were supposed to be minor players in an RP, and ended up stealing the freaking show. Snape was supposed to be my main, and Penny a sideline. I think you can all imagine how that worked out. ;)
5. Last but not least, the Gestalt Glitter Brain. Also FTW.

7. Who was your first fandom friend?
Well, there was [livejournal.com profile] bohemienne, who was a friend from elsewhere first. Then- I can't remember if it was [livejournal.com profile] andromakhe, who I started talking Snape/McGongall theories and fic with, or [livejournal.com profile] irreparable, both of whom I feel like I've known forever.

8. Who (canon character) would you ship St. Mags (you can replace St. Mags with a person of your choice) with at moonette’s parties?
Apparently this is some weird thing from the originator of this meme, but I don't get it, so whatever.

9. Craziest theory you ever heard.
What the hell is that thing, Pawn to King? Ron = Time Travel!Dumbledore. Uh... WHAT?

10. Your favorite crack!theory.
I'm still giggling over that DeathEater/Evil!Minerva thing I heard a week or so ago, so we'll go with that.

Fan fiction:
1. Favorite fan fiction magical invention/plot line/device bit of cleverness:

I like [livejournal.com profile] irreperable and [livejournal.com profile] g_shadowslayer's use of Tom Riddle's diary as a sort of... magical email inbox. And sex toy, kinda.

2. Favorite OC(s):
Is it cheating to say I like mine? Okay, fine. [livejournal.com profile] irreperable has a Russian witch/high priestess I think is really cool. Oh, and that character's little girl, who's a crack up.

3. Do you avoid or seek out the following type of fanfiction? Explain:
Fluff -
Depends on my mood. If I need some cheering up, sometimes.
Flangst - WTF is this?
Angst - Nothing wrong with a good angst now and then. Or, you know, quite often.
Gen - There is not enough gen. I'd probably read more if there was more.
Action/Action Adventure - Not that I read a ton of fanfic these days, but I'd love to see more of these.

4. Pairings you avoid -
Okay, what's the character limit on these posts? Right... Harry/Hermione. Ew. Harry/Ginny. Ron/Luna, and a lot of other things along those lines because they just don't appeal to me. Pairings of two characters I don't like or don't feel one way or the other about. Hagrid/Anyone. Dumbledore/Anyone. Weird squicky stuff. (And I still want to smack whoever it was that wrote the Voldemort/Moody and marked it as Voldemort/Crouch Jr (so as, I suppose, not to spoil the 'surprise' of "What Polyjuice?" Ew. Just.... Ew.)

5. Pairings you seek out -
Snape/Minerva and Neville/Susan are probably the only parings I like that anyone else would write. Oh, and Harry/Luna.

6. Your favorite fan fic (i.e. not canon) pairings -
Snape/Minerva, Moody/Penny, Susan/Neville, Harry/Luna, once in a while Moody/Tonks. And some friends of mine write awesome Tonks/Lupin/Moody, so I read a bit of that.

7. How has fan fic. changed - expanded your view of canon?
I think it's made me appreciate the minor characters more, and explore the world beyond Harry's POV.

8. What do you think of smutty fan fic?
I think most of mine isn't that good. No, really. I read a lot of it, honestly, and when I'm in the mood for smut, that's awesome. But it gets a little tiring after a while, seeing fic after fic that's all about the smut. Also, bad smut is terrible, unless it's meant to be funny. (To this end, I don't read much on Fanfiction.net anymore...)

9. What compels you to read a story?
A pairing I like, especally a rare one. A good summary with a really interesting or different idea to it. The fic being about one of my favorite characters. A really cool AU. Any or all of the above.

10. Have you hugged someone in the fandom today?
You know, I have. *hugs* to two fandom friends very early this morning when they went to bed. Hah! (Okay, it may have been before midnight my time when [livejournal.com profile] strangemuses went to bed, but it was today her time. So there. :)

Well, that was fun.

1. Cartoon Hearts for the win! (No, that wasn't supposed to make sense to everybody.) :)

Gee, I can't imagine what you're talking about...
