I can see I'm going to end up coughing up more money for LJ pretty soon. I was just bored enough with all my old icons, even though I had some good ones, to delete almost everything just so I could upload a new one.

Which I wanted specifically for this post, because it is GOF review time. :)

Constant Vigilance! )

And now to the non-spoilery part of the review, aka the Theater Rant.

People, this movie is PG-13. It is PG-13 for a reason, and trust me, it's not the bloody dragons. Shut up about the dragons, because while yeah, they might be scary, they are small potatoes. The PG-13 is all about the darkness, the last couple scenes, parts of which creeped me out, and the fact that this nice boy everyone thinks is so pretty gets murdered by the bad guy. Duh... So, with that understood, why in the HELL were there so many little children there? Little children who needed booster seats, and couldn't keep track of their own sodas, and who were, not surprisingly, crying by the end of the movie?

I hope their parents had Voldie-and-the-Death-Eaters-nightmares to deal with that night.

Also, a special "no love" shout-out to the people standing in line behind us to get into the theater. Talking as loudly as possible, thus shouting directly into my mother's ear? Not a really good idea. She totally almost killed you. I almost helped. It was not that loud in there. Shut UP.

Next bit of rantyness. Danial Radcliff fangirls. Shut up, shut up, and shut up. You're getting worse than the Orlando Bloom fans at Pirates of the Caribbean, and I didn't think that was possible. They sighed and whistled during the bathtub scene, and again when his name came onscreen for the credits. I cheered for Alan Rickman and Maggie Smith, just to freak them out. Also because those two rock. Someone stood up to leave and I barely saw Brenden Gleeson's name, or he would've gotten a cheer, too.

I fear no teenybopper fangirl that lives in this town. :)

And a final Theater Rant- No love to the people who built the place, even though it's the best theater in town, and we drove all the way over from our new place, even though others are closer, because it's such a good one. Because they built their stairs all funky, so that when I looked up to see how bad the crowd was outside in the hall, and went to keep walking down the steps, I put my foot where there was no step, and fell, and smacked my knee and both ankles. The knee and one ankle are alright. The other ankle is killing me.

It was still almost worth it. Damn good movie. :)

I've been up since 10:00 (bloody neighbors just had to have that loud conversation right below my window, didn't they? ugh) but I haven't really gotten a lot done. I guess I'm getting lazy.

Ten days left in NaNoWriMo, and I know I'm going to hit the 50K. I'm at 48-something now; I can hit 50 in ten days, no problem. I don't know that the book itself will be done by the 30th, because I do have so much left to do plot-wise, and I'm sort of stuck with school and other things that take time away from writing. Plus the fact I'm just not greatly motivated right now.

Has anyone else noticed, by the way, that almost all of my icons are depressing? Including this one.

I was looking for inspiration for my novel yesterday, so I popped Ladyhawke in the VCR. I hadn't seen it for years, but it's still one of my favorite movies. Despite a few things which I had forgotten all about... like the fact that the soundtrack is... bad. Beyond bad, and into atrocious in some points. I was laughing all the way through the opening credits, because the music is just so- off. It doesn't seem to fit the story in most places at all. And, too, there is some really bad acting (the bishop? seriously lame), and yeah, it's a little- well, my mother would call it "hokey". But I like it. It's cute and it's sad and sort of poignant, and it has a nice happy ending.

So today I was inspired to make depressing Ladyhawke icons. I stopped at one, because I do have real work to do.

Unfortunately the movie didn't help me much with my novel, though I did get some good laughs watching the bishop's guards trot around the countryside looking like morons. What I did get was a very annoying number of ideas for Ladyhawke fanfic. Just what I need, more voices in my head. Perhaps that would explain my headache; Isabeau and Navarre are duking it out with Cait, Tallinor, and the rest of the novel gang somewhere up in my sinuses.

Then again, maybe I've just finally snapped. Yeah, that's probably it.

Rented movies for this weekend, and we're watching about one a day so far. Yesterday was the X-Men movie, which I liked a lot. Must see the second one now, someday.

But today... Ugh.

If I can remember who ever told me Highlander didn't suck, I am going to have to hurt them. I had always thought something like this should appeal to me; Swords, Sean Connery, and decapitations. Okay, so I'm not a big decapitation fan- I could've put up with it for the sake of the story. Except the story...bites. I should have given up and turned it off as soon as Sean's character died, but I never learn. I kept hoping it would get better.

And then...it was over. And the peasents rejoyced. What a farce.

The fact that the entire soundtrack was by Queen didn't help, either. I have nothing against Queen, even like them at times, but it was hard to take seriously.

Call me crazy, but I think what the movie could really have used was the guys from Mystery Science Theater cracking jokes.

I'm really very bummed, though. Thought it would be much cooler.

Blech.
