If there's ever any doubt, you can usually tell that I'm still alive because the books read list gets updated. Sometimes it's the only thing I remember to do on LJ lately.

Things are so crazy I hardly know where to start. I'm doing terribly in my stats class, and half the time I'm too tired and depressed to care. I know I've got to get my shit together or I'm going to end up having to retake this damn class, but it's a lot easier said than done.

If I can get through this week, next week is spring break. I figure some time off can't hurt. I hope it helps.

In other news, my shoulder's doing much better, and my physical therapist kicked me to the curb a couple weeks ago. It's like night and day, how much better my shoulder feels now than it did last year when I first started at PT. I have some exercises I can do when things start to tighten up, and it still kind of amazes me how much they help. It used to hurt so much more! It's not like I miss the pain (um, no, really really don't miss it) but I'm still getting used to not being in pain all the time. It's been nice.

I bought some little one pound weights to use in my exercises at this neat little used sporting goods place in town. The longer the economy sucks, the more stuff I'm getting used if I can, and I know a lot of other people are too. 'Course, we've always been into used stuff at my house- books, CDs, movies, video games- because we're basically cheap, and there's basically nothing wrong with used stuff.

I hear about people who won't even buy a used book or used CD, ever, and I don't get it. Then I think I'd like to have their disposable incomes, you know? I wouldn't mind one of their jobs, either, not that I actually have the time or the energy to work right now. Four units isn't much, but when it's homework-intensive, time-consuming math I'm really struggling with... Yeah.

Speaking of which, I should go see if I can make sense of said homework now.

Books read in 2008

Once again, I'm keeping track of the books I read over the year. I won't be posting reviews unless something really fantastic comes along, but feel free to ask if you're curious about something.

Last year I read 170 and 1/3rd books. Let's see how many I can read this year.

I read a lot. I also read pretty fast, when I have the time, so this list may get pretty long. I've never actually kept track of the number of books I read in a year, and I thought it'd be interesting.

Will lj-cut the list when it gets too damn long.

Am glad it's Friday. Very, very glad it's Friday.

I got my tests back Wednesday; 95% on the Computers test, and something close to that on the PoliSci. Not that I was worried. I mean, it's a bad sign for your education, good sign for your grade, when you're taking a test and you're bored, isn't it?

I've had my nose in Star Wars books all week- I once swore I'd stop reading the New Jedi Order, but I think it's getting better. They've paired off some people in ways I like (as of halfway through Rebel Stand, anyway), and the bad guys are actually interesting for once.

This has bad side effects, though. I was inspired by something I read, opened a Word file- and what came out was the start of a Gillian Skywalker story. Most of you, with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] bohemienne and [livejournal.com profile] kittybot haven't known me long enough to remember these, but they're SW stories about an original character who I used to roleplay, and very ocasionally still do.

I swore I'd never write another one, but... well, I'm having fun here, so I thought, you know, why the hell not?

Old SW gaming rambling )

And now, we're off to school. Yay.

Mom is reading OoP. (Which for some reason I keep trying to type as OTP. *grin* Go figure.)

She's cracking me up.

Minor spoilers, really, but... )

New round of icons; brought back the Jack Bristow and Anna Sheridan ones, and am still swapping out the others a bit. Think my favorite is "never fuck with a Slytherin".

Anyway. Need to go do some laundry, or something else productive.

Which really involves checking on Mom's progress in OoP.

edit- so that's what happens when you accidentally click on 'don't auto format'. Ew.

Well.

Have finished book, handed it to Mom. Shortly after nearly bursting into tears, muttering, "no, no, no, she can't, she can't" over and over.

Spoilers for the death, & other stuff )

From here on I go on more or less as I have been- canon is canon, and I'll use it where I like, turn it on its side for AU when I like.

The Order of the Phoenix hasn't changed anything.

And yet it's changed everything.

Does that make any sense at all to you guys?

Am now up to chapter- um, nineteen? Can't remember. It's a good book, but I find I have to read it in sections. Some of it makes me angry, some of it is upsetting- this is a dark book.

I love my book, hence the icon, but I am also a little unnerved by it. It is- creepy in places.

I think I may vanish off LJ for a while here, at least until I finish the book. I'm too tempted to click on lj cut links for things I haven't read yet.

My year 5 fic is seriously AU already, as the Order of the Phoenix is not quite what I imagined it to be. I am not changing my Order one bit- I like it the way it is, and it's interesting I think from a looking back sort of perspective.

A little spoilerish ranting )

It's 3AM. I've been reading since I got home, at 1:00.

Have finished up to chapter 13.

Spoilers behind the cut.

I am so not kidding about the spoilers... )

Barns & Noble was crazy, handed out tickets for those of us who'd reserved copies, then they called us by lot numbers- we, of course, were in the dead last, or as I put it, "mob scene" group.

[livejournal.com profile] fablespinner, you remember those fire code violations at the crappy anime con? Man- B&N had them beat, let me tell you. Don't know what they'd have done if there was a fire, but somebody would've sued and probably won, I'm sure.

I think this book was worth a 3 year wait, but that doesn't mean I'm anxious to go through that again.

Fun stuff about the future, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and various other things )

Thanks for some really good questions, Eilan! I had to think for a while on some of those. :)

So...I think it's my turn now. Anyone want to be interviewed by yours truly?
